UNITED WAY – DOING A
WORLD OF GOOD
IN OUR COMMUNITY
Pickering – United Way of Ajax-Pickering-Uxbridge
is “kicking-off” their 2004 campaign on
Saturday September 18th from 12 p.m. until 3 p.m. at
the Pickering Town Centre – Centre Court. This
is the 34th annual fundraising campaign for United
Way.
“United Way … Doing a World of Good in
Our Community”, is this years kick-off theme.
The theme ties into the wide variety of acts performing
at the Pickering Town Centre on Saturday.
“We are extremely pleased that so many local
talents are coming out to share in our campaign kick-off,” says
United Way’s Executive Director Edna Klazek. “Since
our main focus is community, what a better way to kick-off
than to acknowledge our home-grown talent.”
The national anthem and two other songs, performed
by Ethnocats - singers from Ajax High School, will
start off the event. Other talents to be seen during
the event are the Home Town Cloggers; dancers from
Durham Tamil Association and Hummingbird Dancers from
Club Carib.
The event will be emceed by an on-air personality
from KX 96. Speakers will include Mayor Ryan, Pat O’Brien,
Chair of the 2004 Campaign and Edna Klazek.
An informational booth will be setup at the Pickering
Town Centre, describing the services and agencies that
United Way supports. Along with information, United
Way Temporary Tattoos; cake and Face Painting done
by Girls Incorporated of Durham for children will also
be available from the booth.
The fundraising goal for the 2004 campaign will be
announced at the kick-off. “With continued support
from the communities of Ajax-Pickering-Uxbridge, we
are confident that we can achieve our goal and continue
funding to the local agencies.” Klazek noted.
