UNITED WAY OPEN FOR BUSINESS
AJAX – United Way of Ajax-Pickering-Uxbridge
is hosting an Open House on Tuesday, April 26th from
12 pm to 4 pm to recognize the generosity of the community
through gifts-in-kind. When United Way was finally
able to move to a much needed bigger office, they thought
that it would take more time to acquire the things
they needed to become functional.
The move happened on March 1st, 2005 and things were
up and running that same week. Various businesses and
individuals made contributions of office furnishings
and equipment as well as the donation of services which
allowed for a smooth transition into the new office.
In attendance at the Open House there will be agency
affiliates, local dignitaries, associated businesses
and members of the community. The new office is located
at 230 Westney Road South in Ajax.
Thanks to the generosity of Ontario Power Generation
(OPG), distinction of the new location will easier
navigate people in and out of the office. The space
that was donated on the OPG sign at the Annandale Building
will be unveiled by Scott Berry, a spokesman for OPG
at 12:45 pm on Tuesday.
OPG is very proud to be a significant contributor
to the local United Way, said Scott Berry of Pickering
Nuclear. “Our employees have shown they believe
very strongly in the work (of United Way). United Way’s
mandate follows very closely with OPG’s own commitment
to support the communities in which it operates.” In
addition to donating the sign, OPG gave a total of
$125,475 to United Way of Ajax-Pickering-Uxbridge in
2004 through employee contributions and corporate donations.
Mayor Steve Parish, Mayor Dave Ryan and Mayor Gerri-Lynn
O’Connor will then officially recognize the new
office at a ribbon cutting ceremony commencing at 1:00
pm Tuesday.
The day is slotted to be an ongoing field of activity.
Highlights include the unveiling of the sign and ribbon
cutting ceremony. Other things to see include: a live
preview of the new website to be launched in a couple
of months, informational videos showcasing United Way events, agency representatives and United Way staff on
hand to answer questions and the local businesses and individuals will be acknowledged
