For Immediate Release:
June 21, 2005
AJAX, ON – Over 1,300 McDonald’s restaurants in Canada participated in the 14th McHappy Day fund-raising event since 1977 to support children’s charities. On June 28th, 2005 at 11:15am, Grimmace will present a Big Mac® box full of cash raised for McHappy Day to United Way of Ajax-Pickering-Uxbridge at the McDonald’s Bayly street location in Ajax.
Symbolically, one dollar from each Big Mac® sold on May 18th was donated for McHappy Day. In addition, one dollar from each Happy Meal® and Egg McMuffin® sold on the same day was also donated.
Gwen Noble, Resource Development Manger, will accept $2,794 for United Way of Ajax-Pickering-Uxbridge. The McHappy Day funds are going through United Way to support the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Cystic Fibrosis is a common and fatal genetic disease that affects an estimated one in every 2,500 children born in Canada.
“Giving back to our community is a message that United Way lives by,” said Klazek. “It’s wonderful that McDonald’s has a national fund-raising event to focus special attention on the different needs of children in each individual community.”
UWAPU provides funding to 29 agencies and a number of programs that offer assistance to those in the community. For more information please visit: www.uwayapu.org.
