Don Terry to Lead "The Way"

AJAX, ON - United Way of Ajax-Pickering-Uxbridge has announced that Don Terry, Director of Nuclear Public Affairs, Ontario Power Generation and long-time community volunteer, will chair their 2006 campaign. Rolf Ott, President of Shobrook Gardens Ltd., will hold the Co-Chair position in Uxbridge for his third year.

“I am honoured to be serving as the 2006 Campaign Chair for United Way of Ajax-Pickering-Uxbridge. This is a wonderful opportunity to make a real and meaningful difference in the community where I was born and have lived for more than 40 years.”  

Among the many people considered for the position, Don has an outstanding background in the community and his past volunteer experiences ensure he’s the man for the job. Don is committed to community citizenship. He currently serves as a Director with the Ajax-Pickering Board of Trade, on the Mayors` Charity Classic Organizing Committee, and on Lincoln Avenue Public School’s SCC. Don has volunteered with Big Brothers & Sisters of Ajax-Pickering, the Ajax Recreation Advisory Committee, Ajax Sportsplex Committee, and Ajax Home Week Committee and Durham Cancer Centre Communications Committee. He also enjoys coaching a variety of youth sports teams.

‘Helping others and bettering our community is a value that was instilled in me early in life by both my parents. They demonstrated their commitment to this value through acts of kindness and community involvement on almost a daily basis. I share my parents’ belief that a community is only as strong as its most vulnerable citizen.  That’s why I support United Way and its agencies.’

The Mayors of Ajax, Pickering and Uxbridge, Steve Parish, Dave Ryan and Gerri Lynn O’Connor have accepted the roles of Honourary Chairs.

Smith, Ralph Sutton, Shirley Van Steen, and John Wiersma.  All members represent a diverse group of business representatives working and/or living in Ajax, Pickering or Uxbridge.
