Organizational Needs Assessments
The Organizational Needs Assessment (ONA) is a survey
tool designed to help your not-for profit Board of
Directors identify organizational strengths and opportunities
for growth and development. It addresses key areas
such as board governance; financial and legal issues;
human resources; recruiting; external climate; meeting
effectiveness etc.
A qualified volunteer would attend a board meeting
and after a brief introduction, distributes surveys
to all board members and senior staff for their individual
completion. At the next board meeting, a detailed report
of the survey findings would be provided outlining
strengths and opportunities for improving board effectiveness.
The ONA and the report is an excellent tool for any
board that wishes to prioritize its investments in
professional and organizational development.
