Days of Caring ®
Day of Caring® is a community-wide
expression of the power of volunteering! It is a day
of hands-on,
volunteer initiatives in which United Way connects volunteers
from businesses, corporations, union groups, and/or
donors with non-profit organizations in their communities
to complete various projects that may not otherwise
be done without the support of the community.
During Day of Caring®, agencies are matched with
volunteers who are recruited from the community. The
volunteers from workplaces are given time off by
their employers and spend the day working on projects
or doing assignments under the supervision of agency
staff or volunteers. Volunteers from organizations gain insight
into agency’s services, and how such agencies
make a difference our community.
Projects are submitted by agencies and can be a half
day or full day projects. Most volunteers want their
Day of Caring® experience to be different from
their day-to-day work. Our research strongly suggests
proposals that are strictly administrative or clerical
in nature are not that popular.
