Agency Profile
United Way of Ajax-Pickering-Uxbridge is an incorporated
non-profit charity focused on supporting the healthy
development of our community. In addition to running
an annual fundraising campaign to support a vital
network of human service programs, we work in collaboration
with people from the political, corporate, labour
and social service sectors to create capacity within
the communities we serve, and to create community
impact.
Leading community members participate on our volunteer
Board of Trustees and guide our policy making. The
Board oversees how donor money is used, shapes our
strategic vision and plan and monitors operational
performance.
Our Campaign Cabinet is the heart and soul of our
annual fundraising campaign. These business and community
leaders meet with their business colleagues to encourage
the participation of their organization in the United
Way campaign.
To ensure our funds are distributed in a fair and
equitable manner, each year approximately 30 Citizens
Review volunteers review applications and participate
in face to face meetings with senior staff and board
members from the agencies. They contribute more than
600 volunteer hours annually reviewing submissions
and making funding recommendations. This is an essential
role to ensure that the community’s dollars,
which are invested in United Way, are being well
managed and creating significant impact on our communities.
